Vision and Aims

Greys aims to engage pupils to be actively involved in their own learning. It is recognised that some pupils who attend Greys have struggled to engage positively with school and learning and so our overriding purpose is to nurture an enjoyment of learning providing pupils with the structure and space to succeed to support them in their next steps, whether that be in a new school, further or higher education or work.

Vision

We believe that all children and young people should have access to a quality curriculum that will not only support their academic needs, but also develop the child emotionally, socially and morally.

We value all members of our school community and commit to ensuring the very highest standards of expectation for our pupils delivered by highly, trained, knowledgeable and skilful practitioners. We are indeed, preparing our pupils for life outside of our community and whatever the timespan of interaction with us, be it a few weeks or many years, our families deserve the very best that we can offer.

The purpose of Greys is to provide a full-time education to pupils who have found themselves disaffected with a mainstream learning environment, are struggling within a traditional setting, or are experiencing difficulties that present themselves as challenging or who have medical conditions. We will endeavour to use skills and experience to enable all students to narrow the gap in academic and social ability offering them the best possible opportunities available.

Greys will support pupils in re-engaging with education and develop their social skills, enabling them to make a positive contribution both to school and community life. This foundation will also prepare them for Post 16 education and eventual employment.

We expect the pupil will develop their social skills and emotional intelligence by participating in learning within a positive environment, through high expectations by all, reduced class sizes and aided by dedicated support staff.

UN Convention on the Rights of the Child

Greys Education Centre is a Silver Rights Respecting School and are currently working towards the gold award.

Article 23:  You have the right to special education and care if you have a disability, as well as the rights in this Convention, so that you can live a full life.

Article 28: You have the right to a good quality education. You should be encouraged to go to school to the highest level you can.

Aims

We recognise that all pupils progress in different ways and through different approaches. With this in mind, our aim is to look at the child from a holistic point of view, collaborating with both pastoral and academic teams within the school to ensure that the pupil is the priority.

We aim, as far as possible, to give all our pupils and families a personalised and exceptional experience and recognise the importance of communicating effectively with our pupils and families.
